A new generation of coal barbecue grills is about to become a reality in India.
The Indian Food and Drink Association has announced a partnership with Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen-based Qiaobi to introduce the products.
It’s the latest in a series of collaborations between Indian and Chinese food companies.
A joint venture between Qiaobian and Indian food manufacturer Wipro is a key component of this new wave of Indian food manufacturing, according to S.M. Narayanan, president and CEO of Qiaobo.
This joint venture, which is expected to be launched in 2018, will be based in Shenzhen.
“We are excited to welcome Wipros and Qiaoyas innovative cooking technology to India,” Narayanam said.
“They have been investing heavily in the development of their cooking equipment, and are the first to bring this technology to Indian markets.”
The technology is based on the technology from the Wiprol-owned Qiaoya, which has been manufacturing cooking appliances for Indian restaurants for years.
“It will be a great collaboration,” Narayanam said, adding that Wiprom and QIAobi have a long history of cooperation.
“In the past, the two companies collaborated to develop cooking appliances in India.”
Qiaogas technology has already been used in India, including in a Qiaoba, a popular Indian dish served with rice and a side of meat.
“The technology has been used for years in India,” said Arvind Bhatia, vice president of marketing and operations at Wiprorat.
“But the first time we were able to bring it to India was through Wiprop’s collaboration with Qiaobin.”
QIAOBI will be the first Indian company to offer cooking appliances that are more energy efficient, according Narayanum.
“Qiaobo’s innovative technology is the next step in the evolution of cooking equipment in India and we look forward to building on this success,” he said.
Wiprats new-generation electric cooking grills will also be available for Indian consumers.
“As more countries have joined the global effort to combat climate change, we are keen to work with the governments to tackle this important issue,” Bhatya said.
The Wipronat Group is India’s largest food producer, with a global reach of about 3.5 billion people.
It is a unit of Wipropharma, which owns over 60% of Wirral-based Food Processing, Packaging and Retailer (FPPR) company Wipraf, which produces cooking equipment and appliances in over 50 countries, including the United States.
The company is also a major producer of home cooking and other kitchen appliances in Europe and Asia.
